Day 1 - Naming our Adventure

We are leaving our home in Oregon for 12 months and traveling across the United States in our RV. Our daughter Andria and son-in-law Troy are moving into our house and will take care of it while we are gone. It's hard to pack with a year in mind so we pack whatever we think we may need to get us through 2 weeks and call it good. It's alot of stuff and we are totally loaded down - not an inch of space to spare. I probably packed too much - it'll be interesting to see what we actually need versus what we don't. I never was good at packing!

SuperDog Henry is worried that we will leave him behind so he has planted himself inside the RV and refuses to move. It's a little hard to maneuver around a 65 lb lump on the floor - but we finish up and head out.
We wanted to leave at 9 am but ended up leaving at 1:00. We will drive 7 hours to the Oregon/Idaho border. No traffic east of Portland - which is unusual - especially for a holiday weekend. It's a beautiful day - no wind to contend with (wind is the arch enemy of RV travel).

We try to do all our traveling during the daytime hours - but as we move through the Blue Mountains it starts to get dark. I'm afraid we'll hit the animals that begin appearing - we pass 4 coyotes near the side of the road - yikes! Time to hurry - but the moon is so beautiful as it rises over the hills - I would love to linger. It's nearly full and is just cresting the hills. We decide to park for the night at the Walmart parking lot in Ontario, Oregon. For those of you that don't know - most Walmarts let RVer's park overnight for free. It's a great service they provide to travelers who are trying to put the miles behind them. The lots are well lighted and have security cameras for added safety. It's not ideal - but sometimes necessary.

We unpack what we need for the night & sit down in front of the television with a sandwich. The Oregon Ducks are annihilating Arkansas St. so we turned the station to watch National Lampoon's Family Vacation.  Haven't seen it for a long time - seemed like a fitting title since we just started our own extended vacation. Now I didn't know there was an R rated version - but soon found out. We came in on the scene where Clark Griswold pulls the family truckster off to the side of the road to yell at his family because they are complaining about their attempt to get to Wally World and want to call it quits and go back home. Sorry if this offends:
"I think you're all f***ed in the head. We're ten hours from the f***ing fun park and you want to bail out. Well I'll tell you something. This is no longer a vacation. It's a quest. It's a quest for fun. I'm gonna have fun and you're gonna have fun. We're all gonna have so much f***ing fun we'll need plastic surgery to remove our G.Damn smiles."

Everyone who knows me knows how much I hate the F*** word - so it is with a irony and humor that Andy & I decide to name our trip based on this horrible quote from a Chevy Chase movie. Please join us on our  Quest for Fun!
